　　Too much money spent on looking after and repairing old buildings. Some people think we should knock old buildings down and build new modern ones. To what extent do you or disaGREe?

　　Some people claim that since old buildings stand in the way of constructing new buildings and the maintenance costs too much money, old buildings should be demolished or destroyed. In my opinion, this is a short-sighted view and old buildings are worth repairing.

　　First of all, some old buildings have historic values to the community. This is because the traditional building, as the architectural heritage, is a unique part of a city, such as the churches in the western world and the temples in the Asian countries. By maintaining them deliberately, not only local residents but also foreign tourists can have access to its splendid history and culture. The more we understand the past, the more we can appreciate the life we own today.

　　Apart from the historic value, tourism industry could be promoted if old buildings are well preserved. Take Colosseum as an example. Millions of travellers throughout the world are flocking to this historic site not only for the breathtaking beauty but also for the history and age. It’s free to walk around the forum, but a ticket is required if you want to have a closer look at the interior. However, if Italian government attached little importance to the maintenance of this old architecture, it is unlikely for Italians to attrACT tourists around the world for hundreds of years.

　　In conclusion, if we do not want to reGREt in the future, just to remember that there is no chance for us to renovate or save a historic site which has gone already.
