长郡梅溪湖月考英语试卷
第三节 阅读表达 阅读下面的短文,然后根据短文内容回答问题。(共5小题,计10分)
Lots of people are pouring buckets of ice water over their heads these days. Why? It may sound a little strange, but it’s because of the “Ice Bucket Challenge”(冰桶挑战)organized by ALS Association (肌肉萎缩性侧索硬化症公益协会) to help people with the illness called ALS.
In order to bring attention to the illness and also to raise money for these people, the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge was started. According to the game rules, people send a video of themselves getting ice water poured on them. Then they invite one or more of their friends to do the same thing. If people invited don’t do the pouring within 24 hours, they should give away 100 U.S. dollars to the ALS Association to help the sick.
The challenge is now taking the Internet by storm. Many famous people around the world took the challenge, including Bill Gates, Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, Leonardo DiCaprio and so on. Hong Kong’s popular artists such as Andy Lau, Lisaon, Chan also volunteered to meet the “Ice Bucket Challenge”. They recorded the pouring and shared videos on the social media like Face book.
On August 20th, 2014, the former(前任的)U.S. President George W. Bush joined in the challenge and invited his friend Bill Clinton to do it next. “Now it’s my honor(荣幸)to challenge my friend Bill Clinton to the ALS Challenge”, he said. “Yesterday was Bill’s birthday and my gift to him is a bucket of cold water.”
