There the farmer sold the horseshoe and with the few pennies he bought some cherries(樱桃).
The father and the son continued their way. The sun was well up in the sky, and there wasn’t a house or even a tree where they could have a rest. Thomas felt too thirsty to walk on. What will man be like in the future---in 5,000 or even 50,000 years? We can only make guesses, but we can be sure that he will be different from what he is today, for man is slowly changing all the time.
Let us take an example. Man, even five hundred years ago, was shorter than he is today. Now, on average(平均), men are about three inches(英尺)taller. Again, in the modern world we use brains a GREat deal. Even so, we still make use of only about 20% of the brain’s capacity(容量).As time goes on, however, we shall have to use our brains more and more, and eventually we shall need larger ones! This is likely to bring about a physical change to the head, especially the forehead, will grow larger.
Nowadays our eyes are used very often. In fACT, we use them so much that they become weaker and we have to wear glasses. But over a very long period of time it is likely that man’s eyes will grow stronger.
On the other hand? we tend to make less use of our arms and legs. These, as a result, are likely to grow weaker. At the same time, however, our fingers will grow more sensitive because they are used a great deal in modern life.
But what about hair? This will probably disappear from the body altogether in course of time because it does not serve a useful purpose any longer. In the future, then, both sexes are likely to be bald(光头的).
Perhaps all this shows that future man will not be a very attrACTive being to look at! This may well be true. No matter how great the change is, future man will still have a lot in common with us.
( )51. The passage mainly tells us that ________
A. man’s life will be different in the future
B. future man will look quite different from us
C. man is growing taller as time passes
( )52. Which parts of man mentioned in the passage will change EXCEPT
A. weight and ears
B. brain and height
C. arms and legs
( )53. The change in the man’s size of the forehead is probably because ________
A. he makes use only 20% of the brain’s capacity
B. the other 80% of his brain will grow with time
C. he will use his brain more and more as time goes on
( )54. The underlined word “sensitive” means ________ in Chinese.
A.纤细的 B.灵敏的 C.笨拙的
( )55. What is TRUE about a human being in the future?
A. He may be hairless because hair is no longer useful.
B. He has smaller eyes and wears better glasses.
C. His fingers grow weaker because he doesn’t have to make use of them.

Almost every kid will be asked the question of whom you like better, your mother or your father. There is no doubt that mother is very great as she gives you the life, while father is also of importance. Father’s Day is invented to show gratitude to fathers. It’s coming has a story.
The first person to propose(提出)the idea of Father’s Day was Mrs. Dodd in 1906. She wanted a special day to honor her father, whose wife passed away many years ago. At first, Mrs. Dodd wanted Father’s Day to be celebrated on her father’s birthday , but later President Johnson signed a paper to declare the third Sunday of June was Father’s Day. Since then, it became an international day. It is not only to honor one’s father, but also the fathers of all the people.
Father’s Day reminds people to show gratitude to their fathers, who love you all the time and no matter what difficult you meet, he will stand by your side. Get ready to thank your daddy for all that he has done. Though his priceless love could never be compensated for but still why not make a try with something exclusive? Prepare some surprises, send him greeting cards, make tea for him and many more.
As a student, the best way is to work hard and achieve something. However, when you grow up, just going home now and then is the best way. I bet. No matter how busy you are, remember to call them now and then.

One day, a farmer was walking along a road with his son Thomas. The father said, “Look! There’s a horseshoe. Pick it up and put it in your bag. ” Thomas said, “It isn’t worth the trouble.” His father said nothing but picked it up himself. When they got to a nearby town, they had a rest. There the farmer sold the horseshoe and with the few pennies he bought some cherries(樱桃).
The father and the son continued their way. The sun was well up in the sky, and there wasn’t a house or even a tree where they could have a rest. Thomas felt too thirsty to walk on. At this time, his father dropped a cherry on the ground and Thomas picked it up quickly and ate it. After a while, his father dropped another cherry and once again, his son lost no time in picking it up and putting it in his mouth.
And so they went on. The old farmer dropped the cherries and the son picked them up. When Thomas had eaten up all the cherries, his father said to him, “My dear son, if you had bent(弯腰)down early to pick up that horseshoe, it would not have been necessary for you to bend so many times for the cherries.

C. His fingers grow weaker because he doesn’t have to make use of them.
