托福口语一二部分回答中WH疑问词的重要性
很多托福考生对托福口语的一二部分都感觉没有话说，回答总是干巴巴的，自然分数也不会高。其实，托福口语的评分标准明确规定了要有"detail"才能满足题目扩展的要求。可惜，考生们既不知道细节的重要性，也不知道该如何添加细节。所幸，这样的烦恼只要掌握了两个字母"WH"就可以搞定。
此处的WH指的是以WH开头的各个疑问代词，如why, what, who, when, where, which, how等。那么，具体怎么用疑问词来细节化托福口语的回答呢？
现在，我们以2014年9月托福口语第一部分的真题为例：It is more important to have more facilities rather than hire more teachers? 如果考生选择的是 have more facilities，那么，考生可以用WH疑问词来问自己很多问题，如：
1. Why do students need more facilities?
2. What facilities do students need?
3. Who are eager to have more facilities?
4. When do students need facilities?
5. Where do students need facilities?
6. How do students use facilities? 等等。
这些问题都是由以上提及的WH疑问词引发的，都是很容易想到的问题。那么，托福口语第一部分回答的细节就来源于这些疑问词的回答。比如上述的真题，学生可以回答：
1. To help study
2. Computer, Ipad, Microscope, calculator, etc.
3. Students, especially those specializing in science
4. In class and out of class
5. In class or in the lab
6. Follow instructions of professors or textbooks
上面的回答都是很容易想到的。如果考生选择了问题1和回答1，即考生打算回答"更多设备有助学习"，那么，这样的回答是没有细节、得不到高分的。所以，考生如果这样回答，应该做的是继续问自己WH疑问句，如：Why do more facilities help students' study?
基于这个问题，考生可以回答：To improve students' ability
那么，考生又可以问自己，可以What ability can be improved？回答：可以提高hands-on ability。
考生又可以继续问题，When can students use hands-on ability? 回答：At present and in the future.
考生可以继续问自己：Why should students use hands-on ability at present? Why should students use hands-on ability in the future? 回答：Students use hands-on ability to solve problems in academic study. Students will use hands-on ability to face potential challenges in the future.
当然，学生还可以继续用任何WH疑问词问下去和回答下去。但是，我们其实已经可以从上述的回答中得到一个有细节的托福口语第一部分答案的其中一个点了，现在只需稍作整理即可。
It is more important to have more facilities rather than hire more teachers?
整理后的回答：It is more important to have more facilities because students' ability can be GREatly improved, especially their hands-on ability. Using facilities gives students opportunities to solve relevant problems in their academic study during their college life, and will help them face potential challenges in their future work as well.
就这样，一个托福口语第一部分的回答的一个点就做好了，里面有很多细节，比如who, why, when, what。如法炮制，考生也可以得出第二个点和里面的细节，如上面提到的各种设备，再阐述各种设备的用途、学生可以得到通过设备得到的具体好处等。每个题目包括两个点和足够细节就可以达到评分标准中的"detail"的要求了。
考生们可以每天都问自己很多WH问题，来培养口语细节的思维。只要多练习几天，再遇到托福口语一二部分，大家也不会再为回答干巴巴无细节而发愁了。
